Who are we?
We are a voluntary group who aim to keep Skibbereen Town clean and tidy for all who live and visit the area.
What do we do?
Our ‘Herbville‘ project grew out of a discussion at an ‘Incredible Edible’ meeting in winter of 2017. We all came to the conclusion that it could be educational, visually attractive, sustainable and useful as a town project. The focus is to get ten herb beds planted and labelled by the summer. Each bed will have a theme such as Medicinal, Culinary, Bird/Bee friendly etc. Jacquie Kilbryde, a medical herbalist in Ballydehob, has joined our group to share her knowledge and expertise. She also gives courses and talks so we will hopefully organise some events with her during the Food Festival in September. We are also delighted to be collaborating with ‘West Cork Herbs’ who will supply us with many of the herbs we need.
It is one of the many projects of Sustainable Skibbereen which we hope will be of benefit to everyone. We would love you to feel free to join us in planting more herbs or harvesting them. The project is open to anyone interested, be it businesses offering a space, groups, or individuals wishing to volunteer, all are welcome to get involved.
